The NFL Alumni Northern California Chapter said hello to
a new friend at their annual gathering on NFL Draft Day. 49ers Head Coach Mike
Singletary made an impressive visit to the packed ballroom in Santa Clara,
talking about the team’s number 1 pick, Michael Crabtree, and the reasoning
for trading the second and fourth pick this year for an additional first round
selection next year.
Coach Singletary was introduced to the crowd by new
49ers play-by-play announcer Ted Robinson, and was then heartily greeted by
loyal fans and a large number of NFL Alumni.
He was followed to the podium by 49ers President Jed York,
and Jed’s father, Dr. John York, treated the alumni faithful later in the evening
to a surprise visit.
NFL Alumni greats Bob St. Clair, R.C. Owens, Charle Young,
Frank Nunley, Len Rohde, Gordy Soltau, Gary Weaver, Rod Sherman, Larry Bates,
John Ralston, Allan Kennedy, and many more interacted with the crowd, posed
for photos, and answered a wide array of questions.
